Draft — written to describe how YardShift actually works today, not reviewed by a lawyer. Don't treat this as a binding legal document until it has been.
Privacy policy
YardShift is used by minors, so we've tried to collect only what's actually needed to run the marketplace safely — this is written with Canada's PIPEDA principles in mind (minimize collection, be clear about purpose, let people see and correct their own data).
What we collect
Teens:name, email, age, a parent/guardian's email, home address (converted to map coordinates for job matching — never shown to homeowners), chosen service radius, and the services offered.
Homeowners: name, email, and job addresses (also converted to coordinates).
Parents/guardians: the email address the teen provides, used to send the approval request. If a parent sets up payouts, the payout account itself (banking details, identity verification) is collected and held directly by Stripe, our payment processor — we only ever store the resulting account reference and whether payouts are enabled, never the underlying banking or identity details.
Payments:when a homeowner approves a claim, their card details are entered directly into Stripe's checkout — we never see or store card numbers. We keep a record of the transaction itself (amount, job, status).
Why we collect it
To verify who's using the platform, match jobs to nearby approved teens by distance, run the approval and review flows, and contact you about your own account. We don't sell this data or use it for advertising.
A teen's home address
A teen's address is geocoded to map coordinates for distance matching and is never shown to homeowners — only an approximate distance (e.g. “0.8 km away”) is shown before a job is claimed.
Parental access
A parent or guardian can request a copy of, or the deletion of, their teen's data on YardShift at any time. There isn't a self-serve parent dashboard yet — this is handled manually while the platform is small, and is a planned addition.
How long we keep data
We keep account and job data for as long as the account is active. If an account is deleted, associated personal data is removed except where we're required to keep records, such as completed payment records.
Who can see what
Homeowners see a claiming teen's name, age, services, and aggregate rating — not their address. Teens see a job's approximate location and price before claiming, and the exact address once a claim is approved. Reviews are visible to both parties in a job once both have submitted one.
Questions or requests
This is a draft policy for an early-stage local pilot — if you have questions about your data, reach out directly rather than relying solely on this page until it's been properly reviewed.
