Lawn mowing in Barrhaven

YardShift connects Barrhaven homeowners with local teenagers who mow lawns in their own neighbourhood. Every teen has a parent or guardian who approved their account before they could take a single job, and every payment runs through the app rather than cash at the door.

How it works

  1. 1

    Post the job

Describe what you need, pick the area, and set your own price. Nothing is charged yet.

  2. 2

    Approve who claims it

Nearby teens who offer this service see your job. You review who claimed it, including their rating, and approve the one you want.

  3. 3

    Pay when it's done

Your card is only charged once you've seen the finished work and released the payment. You can add a tip afterwards.

Mowing through an Ottawa summer

Barrhaven lawns generally need cutting every one to two weeks from May through September, more often during a wet June. Because the teens live nearby — most within a couple of kilometres — they can usually fit a cut in the same week you post it, and you can invite the same person back once you've found someone you like.

Why parent-approved teens

A parent signs off first

No teen can claim a job until a parent or guardian approves their account through a one-time link and signs a liability waiver. There's no way around that step.

No cash at the door

Payment is authorized when you approve someone and only captured once you release it. Neither side handles cash, and there's a record of every job.

They actually live here

Teens only see jobs inside the radius they set around their own home, so the person mowing your lawn is a neighbour, not someone driving in from across the city.

Common questions

How much does it cost to get my lawn mowed?

You set the price when you post the job, starting at $20. Most Barrhaven front-yard cuts are posted between $25 and $40 depending on size, and front-and-back jobs run higher. YardShift adds a 12% service fee on top (minimum $3) — it's never deducted from what the teen earns, so they keep the full amount you posted.

Do I need to provide a lawnmower?

That's up to you. When you post a job you say whether you're providing the gear or the teen should bring their own, and only teens who match see it. Plenty of teens have their own mower; plenty of homeowners would rather the teen used the one already in the garage.

Can I choose front yard, back yard, or both?

Yes. Every mowing job specifies the area, and teens see it on the job before claiming, along with a photo of that part of your property so there are no surprises about size.

Who actually shows up?

A local teenager aged 13 to 17 whose parent approved their account and signed a liability waiver. You review who claimed the job and approve them before any work happens — you're never assigned someone automatically.
